Carex geminata (Wetland cutty grass)

Carex geminata, commonly known as Wetland Cutty Grass, is a resilient NZ native sedge with a wide, spreading habit ideal for wetland and riparian environments. Its strappy green leaves have a sharp edge and form a dense, upright clump that provides strong textural contrast in both restoration and ornamental plantings. Evergreen and tough, it excels at stabilising banks and filtering water along streams, ponds and drainage lines.

Reaching around 1m tall and 1m wide, Carex geminata grows at a medium rate and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers consistently moist soils and performs reliably across Queenstown and Central Otago, offering excellent erosion control and year'round structure. Its bold foliage and ecological value make it a standout choice for wetland projects and naturalistic gardens.

Choose Carex geminata for a hardy NZ native that delivers strength, texture and dependable performance in damp or riparian settings.
