Leptospermum scoparium (manuka)
Queenstown Nursery
Leptospermum scoparium, commonly known as Mānuka, is a fast-growing NZ native shrub or small tree valued for its scented, fine foliage and abundant single white flowers. Blooming in spring to early summer, the flowers are highly attractive to bees and are the key nectar source for the renowned Mānuka honey. Its dense habit and quick establishment make it an excellent nurse crop for native revegetation and restoration projects.
Reaching around 4m tall and 3m wide, Mānuka grows at a medium to rapid rate and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It prefers moist, well-drained sites and performs reliably across Queenstown and Central Otago when protected from heavy frosts in its early years. Evergreen and hardy once established.
Choose Leptospermum scoparium for a versatile NZ native that offers scented foliage, bee-friendly flowers and excellent value for revegetation, shelter or naturalistic planting.
