Kunzea robusta (kanuka)
Queenstown Nursery
Kunzea robusta, commonly known as Kānuka, is a widespread and iconic NZ native tree recognised for its fine, airy foliage and masses of small white flowers that cover the branches in early summer. The tiny green leaves and papery bark give it a soft, textural appearance, while its upright habit makes it suitable for shelter, revegetation and native restoration plantings.
Reaching around 10m tall and 4m wide, Kānuka grows at a medium rate and thrives in full sun to partial shade. Exceptionally hardy, it tolerates wind, frost, drought and heavy soils, making it one of the most adaptable native trees for Queenstown and Central Otago. Its flowers support pollinators, and its dense canopy provides valuable habitat for native wildlife.
Choose Kunzea robusta for a resilient NZ native that delivers soft foliage, summer flowering and excellent performance in exposed or challenging sites.
