Apodasmia similis

Queenstown Nursery

Apodasmia similis is a hardy New Zealand wetland reed valued for its fine grey‑green foliage and strong architectural form. It’s a popular choice for structural landscaping, mass planting and naturalistic designs, especially on wet or coastal sites where few species thrive. This resilient native handles extremes of wind and salt, and once established can tolerate periods of dryness.

Growing to around 1m tall and 1m wide, Apodasmia similis forms an upright, tidy clump with a medium to slow growth rate. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and is well suited to riparian areas, dunes, exposed sites and restoration projects.

Choose Apodasmia similis for a tough, textural native reed that brings movement, structure and year‑round interest to challenging landscapes.
