Carex albula ("Frosted Curls") is a compact, fine-textured NZ native sedge valued for its soft, silvery-green foliage and tidy mounding habit. Its narrow, arching leaves create a light, airy appearance that works beautifully in modern landscapes, native plantings or mass-planted for a soft, textural groundcover. Evergreen and low-maintenance, it provides year-round structure and gentle movement in the garden.

Reaching around 40-50cm tall and wide, Carex albula grows slowly and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It performs reliably across Queenstown and Central Otago, tolerating wind, cold and a range of soil types, including drier sites once established. Its subtle flowers sit just above the foliage, adding seasonal interest without disrupting its clean form.
