Teucrium fruticans (Silver Germander)

Queenstown Nursery

Teucrium fruticans, commonly known as Silver Germander, is a fast-growing, drought-tolerant shrub valued for its soft grey foliage and pale blue, bee-attracting flowers. Its spreading habit and fine texture make it ideal for trimmed hedges, low shelter, topiary forms or adding contrast in mixed plantings. It performs especially well in coastal or dry sites where other shrubs may struggle.

Reaching around 3m tall and 2m wide, Silver Germander thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils. Evergreen and hardy, it responds well to regular trimming, maintaining a dense, tidy form across Queenstown and Central Otago landscapes.

Choose Teucrium fruticans for a resilient, fast-establishing exotic shrub that delivers silvery foliage, soft blue flowers and excellent performance as a hedge, shelter or sculptural garden feature.
