Olearia macrodonta, commonly known as NZ holly, is a robust native shrub with distinctive oval green leaves edged with bold, holly-like serrations. In summer it produces masses of fragrant white flowers that attract pollinators and add brightness to the landscape. Its dense, rounded form makes it an excellent choice for shelter, hedging, screening and native garden plantings.

Reaching around 3m tall and wide, NZ holly thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soils. Moderately frost-hardy and tolerant of coastal and lowland conditions, it is well-suited to both landscaping and restoration projects across Queenstown and Central Otago. Evergreen and reliable, it provides year-round structure with strong seasonal interest.
