Griselinia littoralis (Broadleaf) is one of New Zealand's most popular hedging shrubs, valued for its large, glossy green leaves and strong, upright structure. When left untrimmed, it can develop into a small, round-headed tree, offering excellent shelter and year-round coverage. Small berries appear on mature plants, attracting native birds and adding seasonal interest.

Typically reaching around 6m tall and 2.5m wide as a hedge, Broadleaf thrives in full sun to partial shade and is highly tolerant of drought, wind and coastal conditions. In sheltered sites, untrimmed trees can exceed 10m. Hardy and low-maintenance, it performs reliably across Queenstown and Central Otago when planted in free-draining soil. Trim in summer to maintain a dense, tidy hedge or screen.
