Elaeagnus x ebbingei (silverberry)

Queenstown Nursery

Elaeagnus x ebbingei (Silverberry) is a dense, fast-growing upright shrub with glossy dark-green leaves and a tough, resilient structure. Highly scented white flowers appear in autumn, followed by orange-red edible fruit that adds seasonal interest. Its vigorous growth and ability to trim well make it an excellent choice for hedging, screening or low shelter beneath trees.

Reaching around 3.5m tall and wide, Silverberry thrives in full sun to partial shade and is exceptionally hardy, tolerating wind, cold, salt spray and poor soils. As a nitrogen-fixing species, it improves soil health and performs reliably across Queenstown and Central Otago, including exposed or difficult sites. Evergreen and very low-maintenance, it provides year-round structure and dependable shelter.

Choose Elaeagnus x ebbingei for a rapid-growing, resilient shrub that delivers fragrance, edible fruit and outstanding performance as a hardy hedge or shelter plant.
