Coprosma propinqua (Mingimingi) is a large, tough NZ native shrub with fine, interlaced foliage that forms a dense, upright structure. Its abundant fruit ripens from white to dark blue, providing an important food source for native birds and adding seasonal interest to native gardens and restoration projects.
Growing to around 5m tall and 2.5m wide, Coprosma propinqua thrives in full sun to partial shade and tolerates a wide range of conditions, including wet soils, wind and cold. Hardy and fast to medium growing, it is excellent for low shelter, mixed native plantings, riparian areas and ecological revegetation across Queenstown and Central Otago. Evergreen and low-maintenance, it offers year-round structure and resilience in challenging sites.
