Where Our Plants Go: BuzzStop Frankton, Queenstown

BuzzStop, Frankton, Queenstown: A Small Patch Making a Big Difference

One of the best parts of growing plants locally is seeing where they end up. Landscapes across Queenstown and the wider Southern Lakes region all have their own stories, and we’re starting a new series to share a few of them. First up: BuzzStop in Frankton, Queenstown — a place where bees, people and plants all meet.

Owner Nick has recently planted a run of our mānuka to support his on‑site hives and future mānuka honey production. It’s a simple planting, but a meaningful one. Mānuka is a natural fit for Central Otago’s exposed, dry conditions, and it’s a reminder of how well locally grown natives perform when they’re matched to the climate they were raised in.

BuzzStop is also a great spot if you’re curious about the world of bees. Nick runs hands‑on tours that give you a clear, memorable look into how hives work, what bees get up to through the seasons and why they’re so important to our region’s biodiversity. It’s engaging, practical and genuinely worth a visit.

Thanks, Nick, for choosing local plants and for the work you do to support pollinators in our region.
